About Katrina

Most of my adult life my Kaupapa has been dedicated to the study, practice and development of Chinese Medicine in Aotearoa New Zealand. I am delighted to be returning to practice in the Far North to work at my home office in rural Kaeo and look forward to connecting with the local community.

I studied in Brisbane Australia in the early 1980s graduating with a Bachelor of Acupuncture, and two Postgraduate diplomas in Chinese herbal medicine. I have a National Diploma in Acupuncture and am registered with the Chinese Medical Council of New Zealand. In 2016 I was awarded honorary membership of AcupunctureNZ for my services to the profession. My original registration number is 23!

I returned to New Zealand in 1986 and established several clinics in the Wellington region - Hataitai, Johnsonville, Tawa and Mana. I provided natural medicine solutions for a wide range of conditions with women's health and fertility my primary focus. My clinic pharmacy was well resourced holding 252 formulas in tablet form of the highest quality, ethical and the most innovative products I could source globally, enabling herbal formulas to be matched to someone's pattern as well as the symptoms.

With 30 years of clinical practice to draw on I can apply the insights gained to a wide range of conditions, whether physical, mental, emotional, spiritual or energetic. The original framework and principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) guide my practice and remain as helpful and relevant as modern researched treatment protocols. I enjoy providing personalized care combining these approaches.

Many people have influenced my practice style, from Mr. Greg Bantick an outstanding TCM educator to the late Dr John Shen. The herbal masters Subhuti Dharmananda and Giovanni Maciocia whose innovative formulas were the backbone of my practice. Teachers as diverse as Kikko Matsumoto and Debra Kaatz to my closest colleagues and patients - especially those defying the odds to became parents for whom the gifts of Chinese Medicine will continue. I pay tribute to the many colleagues for the decades long mahi required to have Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine regulated under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act 2003 in New Zealand. It is a milestone. I am grateful to those who continue to do this work. In my spare time I enjoy living simply, doing yoga, growing kai in my garden and anything botanical. I appreciate the Arts and like a good book, the beaches and bush. I like pottering away on the Whenua permaculture style enjoying the gifts of nature. The people of the North have shown much kindness to my family and I if I can return a little of what I have received with my mahi I will be blessed. Kaeo Small Town Big Spirit. He wairua nui.
